PUTNAM COUNTY CROPWALK

Footsteps

The seventeenth annual Putnam County CROP WALK was held on Sunday, October 21, 2007. The Walk started at the Lake Mahopac Methodist Church and crossed Route 6 to enter the Putnam Trailway. It continued on the Trailway to the Drewville Road pedestrian bridge and then returned to Lake Mahopac Methodist for refreshments. The total distance is about 6 miles. We are affiliated with the national CROPWALK program of Church World Services, which was founded in 1946. Church World Service is the relief, development, and refugee assistance ministry of 36 Protestant, Orthodox, and Anglican denominations. Working in partnership with indigenous organizations in more than 80 countries, CWS supports sustainable self-help development, meets emergency needs, and helps address the root causes of poverty and powerlessness.

Within the U.S., Church World Service assists communities in responding to disasters, resettles refugees, promotes fair national and international policies, provides educational resources, and offers opportunities to join a people-to-people network of local and global caring through participation in CROP WALKS, the TOOLS & BLANKETS Program, and the Gift of the Heart Kit Program.

CROP WALKS form the foundation for the work of Church World Service -- without them they would not have been in a position to respond immediately to the victims of hurricane Katrina. Thanks to that support they had staff trained in emergency response immediately available and could begin shipping material assistance (Kits and CWS Blankets) to the affected areas within hours.

Make a Difference!

A number of local congregations are currently recruiting walkers. Each CROP WALKER obtains sponsors to support this drive.
